Hi All, This week's User of the Week is DJezz, otherwise known as Yves Laviolle, who has been one of the many French participants to help with the translated version of the website. User of the Week and The French translated pages Many thanks to DJezz, and the French participants for the translations, Cheers, Hannah |

Thank you very much Hannah. In fact, I only manage the translation forum. The harder work is done by all the people translating pages. If anybody want to help us, join at http://forum.boinc.fr/ |

Oui, Felicitations Djezz ! Am a new member of the Team (joined in December) and have been very quiet so far (probably will remain that way for everyone's benefit !!) but I could not help notice the vast amount of information available on the BoincFr site ! Truly remarkable and extremely helpful. Incidentely, I happen to be looking for information about large deployment and Arnaud kindly suggested that I contacted Vince on this subject, so I will do so soon. As for the traductions, I am really impressed as I could not dream of doing half of what you have done and yet I have been in the UK for 10 years !!! Shame on me, I will however attempt to help if I manage to find some spare time (will be in touch soon about this). Vous faites du super boulot !!! A Bientot. David. |

Félicitations, Yves! The work that you and others have put into translating pages and setting up parallel non-anglophone forums/websites must be playing an important part in popularising cpdn. __________________________________________________ |

Cogratulations, Les! While Australia, and you, are in pole position, may I please ask you something irrelevant? The other day we saw, on a small lake, a pair of black swans - I'd never seen any before. Red beak with a white flash and white flashes at the end of the wings. My mother said they would be Australian and I seem to remember some ancient (Western?) Australian stamps with a black swan. My European bird book shows only 3 white breeds. Is my mother right? __________________________________________________ |

Black swans. Around the Perth, Western Australia, area. Two rivers flow through Perth: the Canning, and the Swan, into the Swan River estuary. I'm not sure if I've ever seen any at Sydney's zoo. Just did a quick Google and found This and This (New Zealand also considers our possums and rock wallabys to be a pest.) I thought I remembered that there are 8 species of swan see http://www.margintrip.co.uk/muteswan.htm and yes the black swan is Australian. Visit BOINC WIKI for help And join BOINC Synergy for all the news in one place. |

Black swans are feral in the UK, although smaller than our native breeding Mute Swan (one of the worlds heaviest flying birds) they are agressive and will drive other birds away from the ponds in which they breed. They mainly favour town & village ponds where they are regularly fed. [The other British swans Bewick and Whooper are winter vistors, the Ouse Washes and Slimbridge are the place to see them and now is just the right time. There are black-necked swans in several collections but I'm not sure if there is a UK feral breeding population. ____________________________
boinc forum and United Kindom team, my climate change blog. |

Strangest sighting I had was about 18 months ago. I was on a whale and bird watching special on the Portsmouth to Bilbao ferry. A few of us were up on the observation deck before dawn on the first morning out of Portsmouth and spotted a black swan heading south over the English Channel just as it started to get light.
