It will soon be thunderstorm season, which means sometimes I have to shut down my computer, how do I pick up where I left off?

I haven't found anything on it yet, maybe I am looking in the wrong place. Please help this folding@home refugee.

Welcome Alfredo, glad to have you on board.

Nothing special is really required. Quit the application running by typing "Control C" or "Command . (period)" Quit the terminal program and shut down your computer.

To restart, just open a terminal window
cd to the boinc folder
type ./boinc_4.19_powerpc-apple-darwin
hit return.

If you are using the full name of the program you can shorten it to save typing. I typically shorten mine to boinc_4.19 just to minimize typing. When you restart, it should remember the most recent save from where you left off. I set my preferences to write to disk every 10 minutes (in account general preferences) That way it will remember the last save point. You can set it for more or less.

BTW you will start to see credit after every 10,802 timeslices which equals a trickle. There are 72 trickles per work unit. You will get 94.52 cobblestones (credits) for each trickle.

If you have a few minutes leeway before you absolutely have to shut down, it's best to shut down right after certain time steps. For example,

1wv6_100110161 - PH 3 TS 024912 - 10/05/2052 00:00 - H:M:S=1236:44:37 AVG= 8.19 DLT= 3.65

Boinc resumes at step 00.00 of time steps beginning with the date 04, 07, 10, 13, 16, etc. In the example above, since it's time step is May 10th (10) and time 00:00, this is the line it would resume at, even if I shut down at

1wv6_100110161 - PH 3 TS 025045 - 12/05/2052 18:30 - H:M:S=1237:02:30 AVG= 8.19 DLT= 2.61

So, if I had a few extra seconds, I'd wait until the time step got to 13/05/2052 and time 00:00 before shutting down. Shutting down in between the times I mentioned doesn't hurt anything; BOINC just resumes farther back and you end up re-doing some calculations.

Thanks.

I wasn't sure if my work was saved or not, so that is nice to know. I noticed

When I launch the terminal, I just hit the up arrow to the command and hit return. No typing. I will do a shell script for it, but that is for another day. Rather rusty in the scripting department.

BTW, I erred when I said I was a refugee of Folding@home, that should have been the now completed distributed folding project. I really enjoyed doing that project. I still have folding@home running in the background and have been for many years.

this is where I am at this time. 1811?

I usually don't know when a thunderstorm is coming until the first thunderclap is heard. My computer is in the basement. I shut down immediately.
