As some of you may know the ClimatePrediction team have been developing an advanced visualisation package to view the data produced by the models. In an effort to support as many platforms as possible we have ported this to the MAC. We've beta tested on Windows and had some very good feedback from the users. These ideas have, for the most part, been included into the code but we are keen to try out the package on some willing MAC users. To beta test the package you need the following: 1) A MAC with OX 10.3 or higher 2) Broadband (downloading the virtual machine for IDL is 125Mb - the final version will be packaged much smaller) 3) A model running with BOINC and ideally a finished experiment 4) Some time to try and 'break' the application If your are interested please email cpdn_support "at" tessella "dot" com Cheers, Colin |

MAC as in Mac? Macintosh? Email sent. Commenting here too -- I'm willing, though I've got a slow one -- 900mhz G3, a "Pismo" laptop with an aftermarket CPU, and it's still grinding away on my first chunk (after losing an early attempt somehow). I'm at Phase 1, Timestep 165733 of 259248, Run ID 3p7q_100194380, CPU time 0634:09:44 (13.77 s/TS) Whatever that means. I gather it's progressing at slightly faster than the actual climate is changing, but not a whole lot faster (grin). I'd come here to ask when I might hope to see anything besides the starfield on the VIZ window -- I gather there's nothing yet to display. > > Cheers, > > Colin > |

The current version of BOINC, 4.25, has something different: a plain black background. This may have been in response to complaints about the vis slowing down the crunching, so the star field was deleted. The vis being talked about in this thread is a separate, 'all mod cons' addon. And it MAY be a bit much for "generationally challenged" computers to handle. We'll have to wait for the unveiling to see. Les (Who doesn't bother much with the vis, so shouldn't talk.) |
