I need to know exactly how much space will ever be needed to run this project. Well, I need, at least a really good estimate. Here is what I have going. I run BOINC at home without any difficultly. At work, there are some Mac OSX.3 machines that I can run it on. I don't want to actually install it on the machines, so I started experimenting with installing everything on a flash (USB) drive and running it from there. So far, I have had success with getting only SETI@Home to run. When I tried ClimatePrediction.net, I was informed that there was not enough disk space. Same problem for Einstein@HOME. So I need to know how much space will be enough for ClimatePrediction.net so I can get a flash drive large enough to hold Einstein, SETI, and ClimatePrediction.net.

By the way, if I can make this work, this kinda adds a whole new level to distributed networks. You can sit down at any Mac, plug in, and go. You don't need to install. No one else deals with the software running but you. You can get work done every time you go to the lab or every day at work. You leave nothing behind for IT people to worry about but a little network traffic. Not bad, eh?

Good idea, BUT.
CPDN is very hd intensive, as well as cpu intensive. The idea was discussed somewhere last year for a while, and is NOT recommended.

As for space, you'll need about 700Meg for a model when it gets near the finish, plus space for the programs and graphics files. When a model completes, 5 zipped files of about 7Meg total are uploaded, and a further 330Meg of zipped files remain on the hd. These contain the bulk of the model data. They can be analysed by the user, with the aid of the Advanced Visualisation package, (see bottom of menu to the left), and may be asked for by the scientists if they find your summary results of interest.
If this much space is too much for you, it's possible to store completed models on either cd or dvd. Or just delete if you don't care about the science.

Another factor to consider, is that one of the files in the BOINC folder contains info on the processor details. Swapping the BOINC folder between computers may lead to problems at the server end. The computers on which you run BOINC would need to be EXACTLY identical.
