Hello,

I have a AMD 64 3200+ with Windows XP SP1. So at the moment I run with BOINC these projects with no problems: LHC@Home, SETI@Home, Predictor@Home, BURP, Einstein@Home.
So now I want to help to predict the climate. I am a big weather enthusiast! But if CPDN runs on BOINC, BOINC especially CPDN crashes after a few percent. So I read a lot of, at many forums, so now I think it is the problem with CPDN BOINC and AntiVir. So my problem is, that I must have installed AntiVir. My company doesnt`t want any other Antivirus software.
So what can I do to resolve this problem?

Thanks a lot!

Akio

If you have read this thread: http://www.climateprediction.net/board/viewtopic.php?t=2895

And your company won't let you run AVG (free), I don't think you will be able to run cpdn.

I think what the problem may be is that antivirus software programs setup to check EVERY file. I don't know if there's a way to just check executable files in the boinc/projects/climateprediction.net directory, but that would be nice. the model is so sensitive that if there was a virus hidden in a CPDN data file (as opposed to executable code that you could run), the model would crash anyway.

Either this or exempting the BOINC directory entirely is the way to go. Ocasionally all projects will have a data file that has a virus signature in it, even though there is not really a virus there.

This problem has puzzled me also, but I finally had some time to do testing about it an d managed to find someting. It seems that Antivir scans extensively CP files which eats resources -> crash. I raised disk writing time from 60 seconds to 600 seconds (CP preferences) and scanning seems to be normal after that. Also it might be good idea to limit scanning to only executive files or exclude CP directory entirely as told earlier.

[Edit] The main problem seems to be "lockfile" in the work unit directory, CP seems to read it continously and so Antivir scans it also every time. Any clue why this file has to be read over hundred times in a second every five or ten seconds?
