etc etc etc, on a daily basis

So what now?-it would be really helpful for the less computer literate amongst us if there was a phone number to call for help, rather than having to trawl through endless inpenetrable technobabble in search of an answer.

It seems that your Boinc client is too old (4.13)
You could try to upgrade to Boinc 4.45 and it should be OK.
You can download Boinc 4.45 here: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php

Hi Mark,

I'd agree that the "Message from server: No work sent (your core client is out of date - please upgrade)" message isn't very helpful.

The latest version of the CPDN application is incompatible with BOINC version 4.13 and you'll have to upgrade to 4.19 (<a href="http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/boinc_4.19_windows_intelx86.exe">link to installation program</a>) or 4.45 (<a href="http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/boinc_4.45_windows_intelx86.exe">link to installation program</a>).

4.19 has the same user interface as 4.13, 4.45 has a different one (and also has issues with CPDN occasionally not being restarted after a BOINC periodic benchmark). The choice is yours, but I'd expect that 4.19 might be a better bet until the benchmarking problem has been fixed.

Before installing the new version you need to close BOINC. I'd advise uninstalling 4.13 first (required for 4.45) before you install the new version (doing so only deletes the BOINC programs - all your account and project information is retained).
