Hello and Welcome to the project and forum :o)
First, I'm not a Mac user, so sorry if what I say doesn't help you.

It seems that you downloaded BOINC and started it but you're not attached to any projects. Boinc has run benchmarks to determine the CPU power of your machine (it's for the credits on others projects like Seti or E@H)

It seems that you have to attach to the CPDN project:
You have to create a account <a href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/create_account_form.php">here</a> (if you haven't done it yet). You'll receive a ID key by email (32 random characters string).
Then you have to attach to the project by entering the id key and the CPDN web adress: http://climateprediction.net.
As I don't know if you're using a command-line or a GUI Boinc version, you'll have to find yourself how to attach:
In the GUI, there is a button called: "attach" or "attach to a new project"
In the command line: you have to start BOINC with something like: ./boinc -attach_project URL account_key (please read <a href="http://boinc.berkeley.edu/client_unix.php">this</a> page to learn more about command line options. You can also start boinc with ./boinc -help to see the different available options)
HTH.

You have downloaded the "Command Line Interface" (CLI) version of BOINC. You may find the "Graphical User Interface" (GUI) version more to your liking. Go to <A HREF="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/index.php">http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/index.php</A> on this website and follow the download steps there. If that is where you got the version of BOINC you already have, then try <A HREF="http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/index.php">http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/index.php</A> and use the link to their "Download" page or go direct to the page <A HREF="http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php">http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php</A>.

At the SETI site you can choose to download one or both GUI BOINC Clients. It does not matter where you actually get the BOINC client they are all the same. The Menubar version is easy to use but provides a little less control over individual projects. It does have the advantage of showing you a text description of the Climate model while it is running. The Desktop GUI is a little more flexible in allowing you to control things, but it will only show you when the model is running with no real details.

If you have not already done so create a user account here at climate prediction using an e-mail box you are sure will deliver mail from England. Yahoo and hotmail both work, currently Verizon does not. After you create your account you will get an e-mail with a Web address and a long series of number and letters (your account key) as described in the previous post.

After you install the GUI BOINC Client of your choice, start it up, and open the BOINC Manager window from the BOINC menu. Click on the button "Attach to New Project". When it asks for the web address and account key copy them from your e-mail and paste them in to the appropriate fields. The system will automatically load the correct Climate prediction software, download your first model(s), and start running.

You should not be shocked by the size of the model or the projected time for completion. You will be given credit as the model progresses. depending on the speed of your system it could take a few days between "trickles" each trickle is worth about 95 credits, and there are 72 trickles in a model. Stick with it is is fun.

For instruction on how to actually view the model as it is running see <A HREF="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/forum_thread.php?id=3040">this post</A>.
Regards
Phil

Did you ever get your MAC OSX installation working? I'm a Mac person so if you're still having problems, please repost.

It looks like she gave up. Unfortunatly there are not enough of us here to help all the Mac folks before they get frustrated and move on. Its a real shame too. I think the science is suffering. Imagine a system designed from the ground up to do number crunching and graphics, and no support from the project. really sad.

Snake,

I had a similar problem to Caroline and your answer to her certainly got me up and running (apologies, it was me who pressed the "this solved my problem" button, not Caroline!). There seems to me that there is something amis with the boinc folder unstuffed from the climatepredict site, since the GUI Boinc from the Seti link you provided worked straight away, provides a different launch icon (folder) in Applications and I now find all the missing files and the climatepredict.net folder are available.

I'm running seti classic. Should I leave it like that, or move it to the boin version?

Do I still need the program CP Control?

Yes, you should shift to the BOINC version of SETI - classic will be discontinued soon (month or two?). You can not successfully run SETI Classic and BOINC at the same time. Actually, they will run...but SETI Classic will steal all the CPU time and not release any to BOINC.

If you run the Standard GUI, then it (BOINC Manager) is all you'll need for control of everything. Personally, I use MenuBar (Simple GUI) and CLI, but most seem to like the BM version. And if you really want to crunch some numbers, go to the <a href="http://members.dslextreme.com/~readerforum/forum_team/boinc.html">Team MacNN</a> web site and download optimized clients. First however, go to the <a href="http://forums.macnn.com/forumdisplay.php?forumid=72"> Team MacNN Forum </a> web site and read up on installing the optimized clients. SETI BOINC, and Einstein@home both have optimized clients that let your Mac crunch around twice as fast as the standard client. In particular, look for posts by Shaktai, as he's posted several times about how to install the optimized clients.

C, thank you for that. I'm away immediately to change SETI to the BOINC version.

edit: didn\'t see all the other posts for some reason... maybe my browser timed out or something. Anyway, I\'ll leave the post in although I\'m just re-answering the OP!

Open a terminal window (/Applications/utilities/), then type ./boinc -attach_project (in the Boinc directory).
This will run the benchmarks (a sub-program) to determine how good your CPU is. Once this has finished (it can take a while, especially on slower machines) you should be prompted for a project URL and your email/account key. Actually I think it does this before the benchmarks. Once its attached to a project is should just run (you can background it, there are various ways - google).

I think you can also use a GUI interface with BOINC now - if you haven\'t, download this version, and it\'s all menu-based - should be easier if you\'re not used to command-line stuff. I use the Windows GUI - it\'s the best I think, but the OSX version is OK - certainly it makes installing BOINC a lot easier.

I don\'t have this exact same question, but \'totally foxed\' seems to apply: After going through the \'attach to project\' process, the final message I get is \"Required wizard file(s) are missing from target server. (lookup_account.php/create_account.php)\"

The related message in BOINC Manager is:

Wed Feb 15 11:36:41 2006||Fetching config info from http://www.climateprediction.net/get_project_config.php

Any ideas on how to finally attach to a project?

Many thanks.
