Hi,

I am running the v4.19 AMD64 BOINC client (on Ubuntu v5.04) from the Seti Linux site, which works fine for SETI. However, with the SETI site being down, I thought I would run Climate Prediction so that my computer could be doing useful work all the time.

However, after registering, and finally apparently connecting, I keep on getting deferred without getting any work (for 24 hours at a time). I get this error message from ther server \"Message from server: platform \'x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu\' not found\".

Does this nean I will get no work while I run this version of the client?

Brendan

Yes.
There is no 64 version at present, although it is being worked on for the longer, slower, coupled ocean model.

The difference between official Berkeley BOINC client and AMD64 specific BOINC client you're running is only in the benchmark results. These affect the requested credit on other projects (Seti, etc.) and normaly don't affect too much the amount of granted credit. As CPDN has different credit scheme, it doesn't make any difference here.

The other difference is the platform identification sent to servers. It is set at compile time.

Even though you've got 64-bit CPU, the gain for most of the projects is nil. CPDN uses FP artichmetics which is at least 64-bit since 80287 (at least), seti with official clients as well. If you installed optimized SETI client, it uses SSE, which is 64-bit on any SSE-enabled CPU if I'm not mistaken.

As id makes little difference for Seti and nothing but problems for CPDN, you might want to install official Berekely BOINC client. And be sure to install the recommended version (at 4.43 for Linux ATM).
