Message 16004 - Posted: 14 Sep 2005, 20:30:21 UTC

I followed the instructions given by Clay (THANKS! Clay) at:
http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/forum_thread.php?id=2635
and thought I had success as CP started to run. Repeatedly it ceases with the message \"computation error\" after various percentages of progress.

Can anybody help me get this running before I give up entirely and go back running SETI on it\'s own - at least that works seamlessly with my computer and any functions I carry out on it. :-( I\'ve been backfard and forward through the forum looking ofr similar situations and the fixes I have found seem good; only, they work only part of the way.

I\'m using an Power Macintosh G4 1GHz with OS X 10.4.2, recently updated, permissions verified, with Boinc 4.43; running 24/7 and occassionally disconnected from Broadband. ANY help and assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Andrew

Thank you Andrew

I hadn\'t seen it, but what does it install other than the opt/library/ files, which I have already installed manually?

No idea, as I\'m not a Mac user. Tolu is the man to ask - you can either hope he notices this post, or if you have got as far as you can without success you could PM him via the community forum if necessary.

Andrew,

First install the library package, to verify that you\'ve done this properly.
Next reset the project. If you have any problems, send me the contents of your
stdout and stderr file.

Thank you Tolu

I\'ve done that and reset the project, but it seems to be at a stand still. The last message says \"schedule_cups: must schedule\".

Sorry to seem really dense, but I am not familiar with the jargon: where do I find the contents of the
stdout and stderr file? Is this the messages in the Boinc client? If so, how do I paste them to a reply like this - the usual paste commands do nothing in this reply box.

Rather than reset, should I detach and then attach the projects again?

Yes, try reattaching to the project.

Thanks Tolu

I have done that and let it run for a while (had to wait for a SETI project to conclude - hence the delay in responding to you), but it again gives me the Computational error message. Any ideas? What\'s the next step?

I\'m attempting the OU course, so if I don\'t get this running soon, I may have to pull out of that.

Andrew:
I just looked at your computer\'s results and saw that it exited with std error 255. The BOINC Wiki says that means it couldn\'t allocate a memory region. I also saw that you only have 256MB RAM in your computer. It may be that you don\'t have sufficient memory to run CPDN.

Thank you C

I take it then that doubling the RAM may assist me - I have been considering upgrading, so perhaps this is a good opportunity....

C,

I have upgraded the RAM on this machine and still receive the same computation error after about a minute run time on th ehadsm3 model. Sulphur seems to be running though, although it\'s probably too early to tell for sure.
