Does the shutdown procedure in the FAQ still apply to the latest version of Boinc (5.2.7)? Or is it safe now to shut down without exiting the program first?

I never had any problems with any project by just shutting down while things were still running

although now i\'m running boinc as a service and i have a windows shutdown script (run gpedit.msc) so that windows stops boinc just before it shuts down, when it\'s told to shutdown/restart

Have my computers set to auto update and at times it will need a reboot and Boinc is set to start at boot, so far no problems......

My recollection is that there was a change to BOINC some time back to ensure that the applications had time to shut down properly, so in theory the original problem should be solved. On the other hand, that is not to say that the fix is guaranteed to work in every circumstance.

It still has problems in Win 95-ME. Althought CPDN does not necessarily work well on those platforms. 2K and XP are pretty good about it. I am running on 8 different machines and never had an issue with shutting down, cleanly.

i\'m wondering, does windows know that the science apps are \"child\" processes of boinc as it were, and that boinc started them, and they should be allowed to quit (or be told to quit) before boinc does?

because that\'s my reason for having a shutdown script, so that boinc handles it the way it\'s ment to, before windows trys to do anything untill boinc has stopped and everything is ok

I don\'t know. However it is STOP here to restart the computer instead of logging off. I lost alot of models due to that, but have not lost one since about version 4.55 of the BOINC client, 4.12 of the slab model. So hopefully that bug has been fixed.
