my 1st workunit is about 117mb and est completion is Nov-2006(about 1 year). it\'s worked 9 hours and < 1% done. How to I drop this workunit and get another one. My other clients are working cpdn units much smaller. Should I detach and re-attach? It\'s some kind of suphur_cycle. 1492 hours predicted or about 62 days of CPU. Or should I let it run(i\'m game if that\'s what it takes)? I tried aborting, but that was a mistake, it just reset the unit to work again from the start. Currently it is suspended. |

November 2006 is just how long you are given to complete a model. With the original \'slab\' models, it could take 3 weeks on a fast computer running 24/7. And now the project has moved on to \'sulphur\' models, which have 5 phases instead of 3 as in slab. And these also run more slowly, as the calcs are more complex. Next February, the project hopes to start experiment 2, which is longer and more complex still. There is some info on model size, (of the slab models), in the FAQ section, and lots of info in the science pages. All these can be found in the menu to the left of here. |

Thanks for the quick answer. I\'m a seti-guy at heart and have now joined a total of 5 projects w/BOINC, so this work unit is only getting about 20% of my spare CPU time. So to get this straight, as far as you are concerned, if it takes me a year to return this workunit, it\'s still useful to the project? I kind of feel like the \"long pole in the tent\". |

One person was allocating so little time to cpdn, that his model took OVER a year to finish. As long as you \'trickle\' at least once a month to let the server know that the model is still alive, everything will be OK. (Trickles are also explained in the FAQ.) But as far as the researchers are concerned, the sooner they get the finished model to study, the better. However, slowly but surely, the information is filling in the big picture of how to predict the weather/climate. If you run into difficulties, just post. Happy crunching. |
