Has anyone cached the open modelling files to RAM? OK, one would need a lot of RAM, but it would be much faster than all these HDD reads.

Some have discussed this on the phpBB forum. Do a search for ramdrive over there and you will find some older (for Classic CPDN) and newer (for BOINC CPDN) posts about this.
