I know this was mentioned before, but I can not seem to find where at the moment, but I\'d like to make this wish a little more formal.
Right now the total updates are done about twice a day, as at the XML creation. The thing about it is that they are not currently related in time. So sometimes an XML creation will happen before, during or after the totals are updated on the site. Since there has been concern about the slowness of the database with showing trickles on the main user page, and changing the total updates to only a couple times of day, why not make it even cleaner? Make the total updates and XML creation a single script. When the totals are update, sleep 60 minutes then create a new XML. This gives current stats to the stat sites, allows only one of the two to be run at a single time, and allows more control how the database is hit.
