Message 22413 - Posted: 27 Apr 2006, 7:58:13 UTC

Hi,

I´ve get this message from the server. For this I allocated 10 GB for BOINC, but it was still not enough.

After that I checked my account. Under results I saw, that CPDN trying to sent to me over forty workunits. Of course I never had this disk space and of course I never will have the processing time on my PC.

What happend?
What shall I do?

Thank you for your answer!

It\'s not the number on the server, it\'s the number in your BOINC gui under \"Work\" that matters.
How many does it say there?

I think CPDN guys are little bit nervous to solve the model problem and quickly tries serve everybody\'s requests, so they made another fault... :((

I have no WU from CPDN

One WU from SETI
Four WU from Einstein@Home

I have a same problem. I have NONE in my worktab.

BOINC says the same message: \"Not enough disk space\"
Previously I\'ve had 2 gig and it was enough. Now I raised, but no effect, see below an example:

4/27/2006 9:59:29 AM|climateprediction.net|Message from server: (there was work but you don\'t have enough disk space allocated)
4/27/2006 9:59:29 AM|climateprediction.net|Message from server: Not enough disk space (only 4931.1 MB free for BOINC). Review preferences for maximum disk space used.

Not sure what is going on, but I suspect that it\'s because of the downed server.
Your BOINC sent a request to the server, and the server had trouble sending you a model, ao it tried again. And again, etc.
There was a similar problem last year or the year before, forget which.

I\'d suggest that you click on the project name in the Projects tab, and then click Update.
Then check your messages, to see what both BOINC and the server say.

Hi Les,

Thank you for your efforts, but i think it has to be solved by the CPDN guys.

I\'ve tried it several times. No effect.
I think I will suspend CPDN for a day or two, till they solve this problem.
I propose this to the others also.
There are plenty other projects too.

Same thing happened with SZTAKI cca a month ago. They sent out bad WUs with too long calculation time.

I suspended the project and a week later when the problem solved I continued.
Its sad, but thats life.

Best regards,

OK. That relates to your post elsewhere.

Two things. You may have a lot of old or crashed models taking up hd space.
If you have completed slab or sulphur models that you want to keep, you can move them to somewhere OUTSIDE of the BOINC folder, or put them onto a cd/dvd.

If you need to give BOINC more space, you do this on your Account page, under general preferences.

Dear Les,

I am sure that this is not NOWI\'s fault.
I am an experienced BOINC user and I have a same problem.
Believe me it is something else.

e.g.
If you see the error messages you can see that nowi set 3G space and I set 5G. None of them was enough, though \'Normally\' 2G space is more than enough.

I do not know what Nowi did, but I am sure he also archived and/or cleaned his directory just like me.

regards,

Hi Les, Hi Pic,

I have done, what you are suggest, before I posted my message in this forum. I have the same problems like Picard.

I also think that there is a problem on the CPDN server.

Live long and prosper

Nowi

Update:

I have updated the project and now I have a WU to crunch on my PC. But, I still have over 60 WU in progress in my user account results folder.

I think, I have to use quantal computer ;-)!

Many thanks for your help, Les and Pic

Greetings from a rainy Austria

If you do have 60 WUs \"in progress\", that means you probably have a lot of used space in your CPDN project folder. As long as you still don\'t have a working WU, go to C:\\Program Files\\BOINC\\projects\\climateprediction.net and simply delete everything in there.

Dear PWillener,
Read back pls. We know what you talking about. We did it before.
Our directories were empty. Our BOINC\'s did not get any WU\'s, though the server shows it sended many of us :((

!! UPDATE !!

Hi All,

1. My problem also solved. Yesterday afternoon suddenly a new WU arrived to my computer.
2. My account result state window at CPDN still shows many active WU\'s for me, just like for NOWI, and I also DID NOT GET ANY OF THEM, just like NOWI :))
3. I think it was a minor khmmm....error at CPDN. They will realize soon the error and correct this.

My fellow Crunchers,

I wish you to have a nice weekend!

Greetings from a rainy Europe :))

I did recently update the BOINC server software, so perhaps that helped.

Another thing to keep in mind, if you get a \"not enough disk space\" error, is that BOINC uses \"conservative\" calculations. If you look at your preferences, there are various ways to give BOINC disk space, just a # of MB to use, or a percentage of disk space.

But say you allow for 10GB of disk to use, but no more than 50% of your disk. But your disk is 60GB drive, and you have 12GB left. So you have enough for 10GB for BOINC, but because it\'s already more than 50% used, BOINC will not send you work.
