My sulphur simulation seems to be progressing, slowly, but surely. It\'s on an iBook G4 and only runs when I am connected to the electricity, and I don\'t leave it on at night. For a few months I didn\'t have it running at all. A week or two ago it uploaded some results, having reached 20%. It seemed to do that successfully.

But now I see that since April the Mac has not been supported, and many people bemoaned having to trash their projects, as if it was all a waste of time. But what has happened to the data that was uploaded from my computer just recently, which seemed to have been accepted? Is it going to be useful? Should I continue?

The sulphur models were a short term project to get infomation on sulphate particles for starting the Coupled Ocean models.
These Coupled Ocean models started about a year ago, so the sulphur models aren\'t really needed now. The extra info was included in the upload at the end of phase 1, so your recent upload will be added to the pool of data.

However, there is no more climate work for older Macs, only for the new Intel Macs, and these models are still being tested.

There is a list of BOINC projects, all very much shorter, here. Perhaps one of these will be of interest to you.

Short-term? They take a year or so to run!

But I only downloaded the model that was offered (this sulphur model) on 18 Feb 2006. So you\'re saying it was unneeded even before it was sent to me?

Could you confirm that my uploaded data was received okay? And you\'re saying it will be useful? And are you also saying that I should disconnect from the project now?

The models started to be issued in about October 2005, and took about 4-5 weeks on a fast computer running 24/7.
The data sets were left available for a while, because a special BBC project using the new models was started a few weeks before starting here, so the sulphur models were to give people here somthing to run. But not to take as long as a year to only get 1/5 of the way. The entire project may not even last 5 years.

You can see that the data is stored OK by looking at your account page for the model here.
The phase 1 graphs are listed in the section labelled \"Run Information Received\".

As for continuing with the model, that\'s up to you. But it really is a waste of time and electricity.
