I downloaded this software a couple weeks ago, and it basically didn\'t do anything. I had a couple errors, a couple aborted, but basically nothing moved. The time to completion was 3888:53:00 or something like that, and the CPU time was zero. I saw the threads in this help desk (which, btw, there are way too many help sources for this project - confusing in itself) and thought it might help if I bought more RAM (which I\'ve been meaning to do anyway), so I did, and I installed it. Now the CPU time is moving, but the time to completion increases a second for every second it does something. So if anything it\'s going backwards! What am I doing wrong?? Is this just hopeless and I should just uninstall it? Please advise.

The time that you refer to, is, most probably, that given in the BOINC Manager under Tasks.
BOINC is \'optimised\' for the 3 dozen or so other projects, all of which have work units ranging from minutes to a couple of days. And it\'s terrible at working out how long it will take a climate model to run. In fact it may take a month or so to learn about your computer usage. (Time switched on, percentage of time YOU use it, speed of model processing, etc.)
The \'time going backwards\' is normal with a new installation of BOINC, while it\'s working things out.

The current models take about 90-100 days, on a fast computer running 24/7, with little other use. Lots longer for slower computers and/or part time use.

So, if you want to run climate models, you\'ll need to be very patient. It will get there in the end, but will probably need a bit of TLC along the way.
See the links in my \'sig\' below for 4 READMEs that contain lots of hints, tips, and advice.

Cool, many thanks. I\'ll just hope it\'s doing its thing and do a back up now and then (as I\'ve seen advised on these forums) and hope I don\'t get another \"computation error\"!
