Message 30896 - Posted: 8 Oct 2007, 12:40:48 UTC

Hello,
CPDN is now running on my PC since several days (round about 25:00 CPU-time). Till today I can´t see any credit or trickle? Is there anything wrong?

Bye
Michael

The link to your result is here:

You\'ll need about 24 hours CPU time per trickle, and once the trickle uploads, there will be a delay of up to 24 hours before the credit process runs.

What is the % complete figure? Since it\'s an 80 year model the % complete will be 1.250% for each trickle.

Yesterday Y got a message \"You may not get credit - consider aborting it\'. Now I don\'t care about credits, but what does that mean for the results of my model?

If results are not going to be used I could of course save myself the trouble of crunching through the rest. I\'m in a 1920-2080 run, which is 32% finished, 2400 h to go.

My report date says \"13/12/1901\", so obviously I am a little overdue.

At CPDN the deadline is not enforced by the server, so just ignore this message. Other boinc projects do insist on their deadline, so the message is for them. I wish we had some way to avoid CPDN members receiving these overdue messages.

So please continue the model - its results will all be used. At CPDN, every time your computer trickles you get credit for the work you\'ve done.

The deadline for one of my 160-year models also became 1901 part-way through. I think this may have happened when I transferred it from one computer to another. The model ran to the end and the deadlines for subsequent models have been normal.

I think your model will be 2000-2080 ie HadCM 80 years.

Hi Dick

The 1901 date is a sure sign that you\'ve had a problem with the clock in your computer at some point. It\'s often caused by a faulty/failing battery for the cmos ram. (Which stores all of the settings for the computer.) When it fails and you shut down the computer, it starts up again with the default year of 1901. (And all other default settings.)
BOINC sees this and then remembers it, as date\'s are important for all projects other than this one.
Which is why the message you got exists; it applies to the other projects.

It can also be caused by someone setting the computer time forward or back by more than an hour.

If it\'s a battery problem, a permanent cure requires a new battery, with the computer being left on for at least 24 hours so that it can trickle charge.
(And, of cousre, making sure that the clock is correct.)

Plus:
If you\'re NOT running other projects, you can ignore the message.
If you ARE running other projects, it\'s harder.

A) You can set all projects to not get new tasks, (in the Projects tab), and then abort all of the other WUs, which will be way past their deadline anyway. Then run the climate model by itself until it finishes.

B) You can abort ALL of the WUs, including the climate model, and start again.
