This is a very hard problem to diagnose, we\'re not sure why it happens on certain PCs. What is happening on the PC when the message appears? What sort of software do you usually run on the PC? What antivirus and firewall do you use? Am I right in thinking that the Dell GX766 has integrated graphics? Do you run with the globe screensaver, or is it disabled (\'blank\')?

There is a \'crashes and other problems\' readme (link via my signature) which makes some general suggestions on avoiding crashes.
I'm a volunteer and my views are my own.

Well, actually the PC has been for the last 2 weeks only doing BOINC (SETI, Einstein & ClimatePrediction). So it\'s been rather clean of possible \"contamination\" from other processes. No screen saver like the one you mention is running. Antivirus is McAfee.
When the message appears, nothing was running on the machine but BOINC.

The point is here to understand what happens with the WU: does it mean no result can be obtained? Is the WU re-assigned to someone else? It\'s a bit of a pity when the process terminates abruptly on such a failure after sometimes more than 100hrs of CPU.

Hi pduhoux

This is the model

http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=7219409
Other models have crashed on the same computer with similar error messages. Have a look at item #5 by Mike in the README collection about crashes and problems to see of there\'s something you should be doing that you haven\'t done so far.

On your model\'s web page that I\'ve linked to, if you click on \'Workunit\' you\'ll see that the same workunit has been sent as a task to several computers. Usually only one or two computers out of 6 or 8 manage to complete the model. If none complete it, the programmers can send out the same model parameters again.

In the case of HADCM models, the data in every zip file upload at the end of a 10-year period can be used by the researchers. HADCM models that crash part way through can sometimes, if they\'ve got far enough, be completed on another computer from a 10-year restart dump. The researchers use as much of the data sent as they can.
