I\'m a newbie here. I just started three days ago. I have had 2 projects get Abnormal Terminations. I didn\'t get the messages from the first, but here are the messages from the second.

My computer id is 833300 if that helps.

Any idea what is going on?

I could be wrong about the problem - Vista is quite new, and new difficulties are still appearing, and answers still need to be found to some, but judging by the error message, It\'s a permissions problem.

There are a large number of web pages containing exit code 3; this is one of them.

My guess is that it\'s a Vista problem. Windows, in all it\'s versions, doesn\'t get along well with BOINC and the science apps, and Vista is worse than those that preceeded it.

One of the recommendations for installing BOINC on a Vista OS, is to NOT put it under the default C:\\Program Files, as has been done in the past. Instead, install in, say, C:\\BOINC
There is a new version of BOINC due to show up Real Soon Now, (version 6), which will, by default, split the install over a couple of places, all to get around Vista problems.

The trick in your case is:
1) Exit from BOINC
2) Create the new folder (Make up your own name if you like. Just remember what it\'s called.)
3) MOVE all of the folders from their current location to the new folder.
4) Re-install BOINC in the new location. This will fix up the registry entries, etc.
5) Restart BOINC. (Or re-boot the computer.)

****************

Also, make sure that you ALWAYS Exit from BOINC before shutting down the computer. One of Vista\'s \"features\" is that it shuts down faster than the previous OS. And BOINC quite often doesn\'t get time to close all of the files that are open.

And have a look through the README files linked from my sig (below). They\'re full of hints, tips, and advice. Including many ways to backup your model, Just In Case! :)

I\'ll give it a try and see what happens. BTW, I\'m running a dual core CPU and each core is running its own project if that matters. Also, both projects ran a couple of days before crashing. The two projects I am running now have racked up 26 hours and 11 hours so far (only 1,975 to go!).

Welcome to the project and the forum, Eric, and good luck with your continued crunching - it\'s very satisfying to complete one of these long climate models, so I hope you will persevere, and don\'t forget to back up from time to time! ;-)
