Message 32929 - Posted: 12 Mar 2008, 14:21:59 UTC

I\'m getting an error message on attempted uploads of my UK Met Office HadSM3 slab model project. It\'s about 70% complete. The message is \"error on file upload: can\'t open file log.\" Many attempts were made throughout the night, and are continuing this morning. Trickle up messages are working. Changes I noticed this morning are: model date jumped from approx 1840 last night to 2051 this morning. The progress bar shows 1810 to 2050, so I\'m concerned about that. The timestep fell back to 4687 of 259258 when it was over 200000 last night. Elapsed time/time remaining continued to progress normally. I have been making backups of the project. I haven\'t done any unusual work on my computer recently. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks.

Sorry, made a mistake in my post. Next time, I\'ll drink my coffee before posting! Error message reads \"can\'t open log file.\"

Hi Christine
There is an issue with the severs and some zip uploads at the moment.
More about this Here This will be sorted out,not a problem your end.
The slab model goes through 3 phases 33.33%,66.66% yours has just hit the final phase .As you noted the time steps restart at the beginning of each phase
which is normal, can be seen in your Trickles.
So no need for the backup yet everything normal just a short wait for server maintenance.
Well done on the backups though and a big welcome to the forums;)
Chris

Thanks, Chris, for the information. I see that it was addressed earlier, but I didn\'t find the information when I performed a search on my error message. Glad my model is OK. It\'s great to be able to participate in this project, and I want all to go well on my end.

Christine

There was a text error in the graphics display,; the \"2050\" should have said \"2065\".
This has since been fixed.

These slab models run in 3 phases:
pre industrial: 1811-1825
industrial: 1826-1840
doubled CO2: 2051-2065

So your model has just started phase 3.

A warning to all:
Don\'t interrupt the model near the phase change.
1) There is a LOT of file activity at end of phase.
2) Interrupting before the model has reached the first checkpoint in the new phase can cause the model to start again.

Oh!!!!
I had this last night on my Linux machine - and I decided to abort...damn - I probably lost 12 hours of work or so for no reason... ...got it now again tonight on my 950D Windows system - glad I read the message.
I\'ll suspend Network activity overnight, and see if it uploads in the next 24 hours or so.

Neil.

If you keep an eye on the \'news and announcements\' thread it\'ll let you know about most problems like this. Note that there can be a few hours before anyone notices or confirms where problems are coming from, so usually an idea not to be too hasty with models :-)

I\'m still getting the error on file upload message, and haven\'t seen any recent news posts that this problem is ongoing. Trickle up messages are going with no problem. I suspended the connection overnight, but the problem has continued throughout the day (last attempt an hour ago). Is there cause to be concerned yet, or do I just need to be patient with it?

The \"Can\'t open log file\" error seems to have been cleared in the last half-hour or so: both of my stuck zip files have now uploaded.

Hi Christine

Most of us \"hang out\" over on the other forum here, which has much better posting / editing features.
It\'s where a lot of discussion goes on about the models, the project, and miscellaneous matters.
It also has the README files, which contain links to various \'help\' posts.
