Hi,

Ive got SETO working on BOINC - & it is processing...

However I cannot seem to add Climate prediction project on it...

(Ive d/loaded the BOINC software only an hour or so ago - so its the latest version)

However - Ive been to the Boinc / Climateprediction.net website & rest the password several times now (same password each time)...

However when I try the BOINC software - it tells me the email/password is invalid.....

Is this solvable ?

Hi Gordon, welcome to the forum.

You seem to have crunched for CPDN three years ago. This means you\'re an existing member.

But you need to attach your current computer to CPDN.

Open up your BOINC manager, then in the Tools menu click Attach to project. The attachment wizard will ask you to select a project. Choose ClimatePrediction.net. You\'ll be asked whether you\'re a new or existing member. Say you\'re an existing member.

You need to give the exact same email address on both SETI and CPDN so that your accounts match up as belonging to the same person. If necessary you will have to go into either your SETI or CPDN account to change the email address to make it the same as the other.

Hmmm

I went in under my SETI project

Changed my password

Tried & \"attach to project\" - & used the same email / password - Still says login failure

I\'ll try in an hour - maybe database needs to catch up....

OK..

I\'m now getting somewhere......

However I\'m \"Stuck\" - Any help - appreciated

:- SETI uses an email address / Password

:- I\'m able to \"log in\" to this Forum, using my SECOND email address (which Climateprediction uses)

From your previous message in this thread, I need to use the SAME email address..

Ok, So far, so good...

I Attach BOINC to Climate Prediction - using the SAME email address / password as SETI.

Now - Heres where the \"fun\" / \"annoying\" things come in...

:- Climate Prediction DOES recognise the email address as a member

:- However, the password is incorrect

So, I log out of this Forum, (so I can log in & use the password reminder)...

it says :-
\"Log in with email/password\"

with \"forgot password\" - http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/edit_passwd_form.php

However, that URL is NOT the \"forgot password\" page - Its the change password page...

I do know the email address, But I don\'t the old password, account key etc...

(I know the account key for my 2nd email address, But not my main address)

Q. How can I resend my account key ? - The password on ClimatePrediction is different to the Seti password

I guess thats the problem

Hmm I have no idea how I logged into SETI - However the emails I received did not contain a account key (it just said to log in with an encrypted URL)

PS

I tried to attach to another project - I had no problems - Attached 1st try & started to d/load the files & scheduled them for processing

(I\'ve since detached - I dont want that project )

That\'s the point - you DON\'T get sent the old password! You only get the chance to CHANGE your password to something new. This is a security feature.

Hmmm

Yes...

Though - How can I change my password ?

I do NOT know my old password - Or my account key ?

The only thing I do know - is my email address & it doesn\'t do anything with JUST that information...

In the BOINC folder on your computer, there should be an xml file whose name is account_climateprediction.net
Near the top is the account key, which is called authenticator

As for the change password page, I didn\'t think that it needed the old one if you\'d forgotten it.
When I look at the change password page, it just asks for the new password, and then again.

If you can\'t find the account file, I\'ll have to pass this up to the project for an answer.

Sorry, no XML file for Climate (probably because I\'m not attached to the project)

But i have an XML file called account_setiathome.berkeley.edu

when I joined SETI a few days ago, It emailed me

To log in to your SETI@home account, visit:
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/login_action.php?id=657883&t=1348610343&h=b63s56gvb79472d

(This link is valid for 1 day).
After logging in, you can change your account\'s password or email address.

MaybeClimatePrediction can send a similar email with ONLY the email address as the \'input field\'

Then - \"it\"(the server) knows the person is the rightful owner of that enail account..

I\'ll try a bit later on - but I think Ive exhausted all the options I can see

Hi Gordon

In the bluish menu on the left of this page, click on Taking part in CPDN. Then select Your account. You should be able to change your password there. As far as I can see you don\'t need to know the old one, you just select a new one.

After that you should be able to attach your computer to CPDN through the BOINC manager Tools menu. The info you have to give when attaching your computer to the CPDN project is the same email address as in your account, plus the new password. I think the new password you select should become operative almost immediately.

By the way, I looked up your name on BoincStats which gives details of registrations on all projects.

http://boincstats.com/search/result.php

Type your name in the search box. Assuming that all the New Zealanders called Gordon Stewart are you, I found that you are listed 5 times (you should really only be listed once).

You have 2 SETI accounts, #7795555 and #7783325 both from the same date in 1999, CPDN #35945 which is what shows correctly when you post here, Einstein #40242 and Predictor #6315.

You won\'t be able to merge the two SETI accounts as each must be under a different email address. So you need to pick which of the SETI accounts you want to keep and get that one and all the others under the same usable email address.

Cant log in to change password

Cant get access to log in without knowing the password to log in

(catch 22)

No worries - I\'ll give up on Climate for now & just use SETI...

PS - How do I \'combine\' my accounts - Ive had Gmail for years - but previously used my old email addresses....

Hang around. I\'ll find out what\'s wrong with \"Forgotten password\".

You can\'t combine (merge) accounts, because they are 2 \"different\" people.

PS
It\'s the weekend in Oxford, so it may be a few hours.

Hi Gordon

As long as you know your email address, you can use this page to have the account key sent to you
http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/get_passwd.php

Then you will need to log into your account using the account key, which should then give you the ability to change the password.

Hope this helps

Presumably you must be logged in to the website in order to be able to post? It is possible that you might be trying to connect via the \'classic\' login page. What happens if you following these links?

http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/home.php
http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/edit_passwd_form.php

If you can reach the \'new password\' form, why not just set up a new password and attach to the project via that? Or do you then get a login prompt? (But if that is the case, I don\'t understand how you\'re able to post).

Are you saying that you have two different CPDN accounts, one with one email and another with a different email?

(Note that the \'logout\' button does not work - the only way to logout is to delete the cookies).

No, Gordon only had one CPDN account - it\'s on SETI that he has two.

http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/get_passwd.php

Gordon, try filling in your CPDN email address here to see if you receive an email with your authenticator key, which is an alternative way of logging on. Don\'t lose that page while you wait for the email, just minimise it.

If as I hope you receive the long number, you\'ll have to copy & paste it in.

You would then be able to go to your account in the Taking part menu on the left here to change your password.

Let us know whether that works.

I\'m sorry this is such a hassle for you.

Edit - the address of that page says \'get_passwd\' but I don\'t think it will give you your old password; it will give you your authenticator key.

works perfect

Gave / gives us the account key...

can this URL be more easily accessible (Unless its an option you\'ve just added - Then add it in to be accessable )

Took me about 1-2 minutes to add Climate to the BOINC system...

Thanks

I\'ve just added the link to a new \'account problems\' section at the end of the \'crashes and other problems\' readme.

I think it will all change when CPDN updates its software (may not be a very long wait). Then we\'ll all get weak authenticator keys as well and whatever changes go with that.
