I am new to this and have a laptop and desktop running BOINC. I appear to have credit for the work on my laptop and not the desktop. Is it just me and I\'ve set something up wrong!

I wish I had heard of this along time ago.

Thanks for any help or understanding.

Hi Fran, welcome to the forum.

You have two 160-year HADCM models on your AMD desktop. You can get to details of both models from here:

http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/results.php?hostid=869912

Neither model has trickled yet. These models trickle to the server at the end of the first week of December of each model year. Each trickle will generate credits.

This AMD only has one core and these 160-year HADCMs are massive models that take a long time to complete. Your 2 models will be taking turns to use the computer\'s single core. I don\'t know how fast a machine your AMD is or how long you let it run the models each day, but you might find that it takes you a year or more to complete both models.

If I were you I\'d go into BOINC manager Projects window, highlight CPDN and then click the No new Tasks button. That will prevent you from accumulating more models.

In the Tasks tab I\'d look to see which model has made less progress and I\'d abort it. One model is plenty to keep your computer busy! The remaining model will of course advance faster.

If you have the CPDN screensaver enabled I\'d advise disabling it. It uses a lot of resources and slows down the crunching of the model. You\'ll still be able to see what your model\'s doing using the Show graphics button in the Tasks tab.

As models take so long to complete, it\'s a good idea to back them up regularly. So if a disaster causes the model to crash you can restore the backup and continue crunching the same model. There\'s a selection of backup methods in one of the CPDN README collections linked in my signature. I just use Les Bayliss\'s easy manual method which he explains click by click.
