Hello, i have cpdn set to \"not receive new tasks\", as i just want to work on one at a time,
however, will it still occasionally go to the server and update my credit?

it doesn\'t seem to be doing that, so i did it manualy and had a big increase in credit

but i dont know if im just jumping the gun

thanks

Whether \"not receive new tasks\" is set or not, it shouldn\'t matter in the accumulation of credits, as long as BOINC is allowed to communicate with its projects. Reality is, you should receive credits for each trickle (this should be a communication message in the \"Messages\" tab of boincManager), within about 24 hours of the trickle being uploaded. Occasionally there are server problems that make that longer, but eventually the credits get caught up.

It may have just been a coincidence, but if it happens again, post back here.

Message 34114 - Posted: 20 Jun 2008, 15:37:05 UTC - in response to Message 34108.

i let it run all day, and all my other projects communicate several times a day
but cpdn has 0 times, so i did a manual update again and my score jumped again almost 400 points, so i think when you turn off new tasks, it also turns off communication, but its not that big a deal.

There are 2 \"switchs\"
1) No more tasks
This prevents the BOINC manager from requesting more work for a project if set to No. (Note that once a new model has started to download, this can be set back to No even while download is still in progress. It\'s only for the request)

2) Network activity suspended
This, (along with the other 2 Network options), controls the \'routine\' communication between the manager and the server.
For trickles to be uploaded, and hence the accumulation of credits, as well as the upload of zip files containing the science data, this Network option must tbe set to one of the 2 \'active\' options. Setting it to suspended prevents these uploads.

If the trickles/zips are allowed to upload, then the server will automatically show the trickles on the model\'s page, (with a delay sometimes, when the server is busy), and also show an increase in credits once a day, after the credits program has been run.

If you find that it\'s necessary to click Update to get anything to happen, then there\'s something wrong with the way that you have BOINC set up.

I\'ve had another thought about your \'problem\'.
It\'s possible that you\'re your talking about the credit values as shown on the projects tab of the manager. In which case the cure is patience.

The way BOINC works is as follows:
1) Boinc uploads a trickle to the server, and at the \'same time\' the server downloads some data to your computer.
A) Data that\'s downloaded everytime, is the current credits.

B) Data that\'s downloaded occassionally, is a message from BOINC about the availablity of a new version of BOINC. This message appears among the others in the Messages tab.

C) Data that might be downloaded, is a message from the project, called \'The message of the day\'. This will appear in the form of a scrolling message on the graphics image. (\'Show graphics\' button.) Not often used.

2) When the trickle has been received, it will appear, (possibly after a delay if the servers are busy), in a couple of places on the lists for that model.
When the trickles-to-credits program is run, the values of your 2 credits items ON THE SERVER will increase. This may be from a few minutes to 24 hours after the trickle was received.

3) The next time after this delay that your manager contacts the server, the new value of the 2 credits items will be downloaded to your computer, as in A) above.

So, the credits for a trickle don\'t get sent to your computer until a time [delay to next credits-program run + delay until next trickle (or other contact message), is sent to the server.]
If you don\'t trickle very often, the credits on the Projects tab of your computer won\'t get updated very often.

But it will happen eventually, all by itself.
