Which supports my idea that you have 2 accounts. When I look at your account on ID: 517508 I only see Duo CPU T7500
Please log in on your other computer, and then post a message from there in this thread.

okay - sure. This post is from the laptop, the previous one was from the desktop.

What I notice is that if I go to \'your account\' from the Projects window in BOINC on my desktop, I find only my desktop computer. If however I go to \'your account\' from the BOINC web screen, I find only the laptop.

You said earlier that you\'d made a post here from both of your computers, yet the account page for the Xeon shows NO posts.
It also shows International for your country, unlike the laptop, which shows your country as Australia.

I\'m not sure, but I think that the countries need to also match for some things. (Stats sites? Teams?)

How about your email addresses for the 2 computer accounts. Are they the same?

As Les thought, there are two accounts: 517507 and 517508.

So, Scott will need to join his team in both accounts - and will appear twice in that team. There is no account merge facility within BOINC projects; accounts are collected across BOINC projects by using the same e-mail address.

The confusion over user IDs and posting may be because logging in to the Web site is independent of BOINC Manager. To get the account used by BOINC Manager you have to follow the \"Your account\" link in the BOINC Manager Projects or Tasks tab. If you use a Web browser link - as I do - then the two accounts can be different (e.g. clearing the Internet cache will force a re-login to the Web site, which can be with any valid BOINC account details).

ok - I sort of follow this. The problem I\'m having now is I can\'t join the same team twice for some reason - the \'join team\' link is not appearing when I follow the links from \'your account\' link in BOINC manager. I\'ll keep trying. If I try to join another team, this does not show up in my BOINC manager project window after updating. Perhaps it\'s not really worth worrying about?

Thanks for all that.. it looks like we\'ve gotten to the \'later\' option. I was quite sure that I have only ever used one email address for this account, however I tried logging on with all the email addresses I\'ve used in recent time, but the only one attached to an account is the same one for account 517508 - so it seems I can only log into that account.

Users are identified for login purposes by a combination of user name / email address. This is unique; if the emails are the same, then the user names MUST be different. If the user names are the same, then the emails MUST be different.

Your best option for \"short term pain/long term gain\", is to abandon the inaccessable account, and attach that computer to the accessable account.

1) Set all projects to No new tasks.
2) Abort all climate models, and complete all other work.
3) Detach from all projects.
4) Attach to needed projects, being sure to use the option: Exixting user

Sorry to correct you there :

It is not possible to have two account with the same email and different user names in the same project.

BOINC queries only the EMail for validation, the email has to be unique :

}


Users can even have different nicknames in different projects, but still will have the same cross project identifier for stats export, as long as their email is the same across the projects.

okay - so.... it seems I\'m only using one email.

[There is one old account that I\'m aware of, but it has a different email address and hasn\'t been active for a couple of years at least [account 5422]].

When I go to \'my account\' from the BOINC manager window, initially it will show my desktop computer, however if I log out and back in it will show my laptop. Only one computer shows at any time. The same account number, 517508, shows on all occasions.

In this case, you sure have two computers running on the same host ID.

This can happen, if the file client_state.xml (or the complete BOINC installation)
of one computer has been copied to the other computer.

You can see that host_id in the list of your computers. If it\'s the same everytime,
for the laptop and for the home computer, your computers are both running on the same ID.

If you see all results, that you have on both computers, on that \"combined\" home/laptop
entry, you should be able to finish the workunits on either of them and the server will
accept the results.

You should still detach one of those two sometimes (when you\'re out of work), exit
BOINC for a moment (so it doesn\'t try a re-attach using the same Host-ID), restart
BOINC and reattach to the project.

I hope it helps :-)


p.s.: In this situation, you always see the computer that made the last contact
to the server. That\'s why the entry seems a bit random, this or that box.

The thread has taken a slightly different tack, which is fine, but my \'later\' was going to be an attempt to log in using an \'authenticator\' string (e.g. here) - since even if there are two machines trading as one, then it would still be nice to give Scott access to both his accounts.

To me it looks as if there were no two accounts but just one.

That\'s why I assumed that it\'s just a problem with the host ID, not with the
account ID.

No problem. But there are two accounts, 517507 and 517508. Scott quite reasonably thought there was just one because he kept ending up at the same logged-in account on both machines, but that just means he\'s logged in using one set of credentials, whereas BOINC Manager may well be using two different sets.

If he does manage to log in to both accounts, there might still be some horrible configuration error ...
