I am running my first WU, an HADAM3P. My system has 512MB RAM and I don't care what I crunch as long as I have work. Is there any reason why I should not check all the model preferences except the HADAM3 (which requires 1.5G RAM)?

You're PC is not high end, so I would NOT select hadcm3 type models. These run for a very long time, even on fast PCs. You're probably best to check hadam3p, hadsm3 and hadsm3mh models.

Hi, Swiftmallard. Welcome to the project.

Geophi is right. Running a Hadcm3 (coupled model) on your computer would be a very long commitment. It would likely take 6 months or more to finish running 24/7. The shorter models are better choices until you get more experience.

If you should decide to try a Hadcm3 (hopefully after you have been with the project several months) the secret to completing one of those baby’s is backups, backups, backups. In the several months it will take to finish, it is quite likely that something will happen to crash the model at least once. A good backup is the only way to get a crashed model up and running again. Making a backup every day or 2 is not to often.

Happy Crunching!
