I know that Aqua@home has come up with a MT app and works good, i was wondering if MT would come to CPDN. 4 cores or 2 cores working on the same wu can process a lot faster? what are the odds of a MT app?

There was a recent update to progress and plans for the project here. Hiro\'s Millenium experiment, which is listed there, was planned to be able to utilize multiple processors, but the alpha testing has not gone well, and deadlines are approaching, so I think it will be released as a single-threaded model like the others. It certainly would be nice to be able to utilize multi-threading on the longer model runs.

No.
That short term project finished about 3 years ago, and the idea of MT apps never eventuated.

hmmm...okay...that's a pity. Why not making extensive use of multi-core/multi-cpu systems ?

Do you know how hard it is to get these super computer programs to produce stable results on a desktop computer?
It's bad enough with just a single core, without multiple cores, which is why it was dropped way back.
And that was with a simpler climate program called FAMOUS.

The current set up produces usable results in a reasonable time for the researchers, and that's what counts.

Aha ok, thanks for the info. Though I'm a professional software architect/developer, I don't have any experience with mainframe/supercomputer programming. So I thought it might be "just" a bit of reprogramming and tweaking.
