Message 39310 - Posted: 23 Mar 2010, 22:30:33 UTC

I continue to receive this message no matter how I set my preferences:

3/23/2010 4:55:08 PM climateprediction.net Requesting new tasks for GPU
3/23/2010 4:55:13 PM climateprediction.net Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks
3/23/2010 4:55:13 PM climateprediction.net Message from server: No work sent
3/23/2010 4:55:13 PM climateprediction.net Message from server: No work available for the applications you have selected. Please check your settings on the web site.

How can I correct this problem.

The computer\'s requesting work for GPU. There is no GPU work at CPDN. You need to request CPU tasks. At the moment the available models are HadSM and HadAM3P, both for CPU.

Where in my preferences do I make that change?

In climateprediction.net preferences

On computers with suitable hardware and software(drivers), BOINC continually polls your projects to see if one of them has added gpu apps since the last time it asked.
This starts off with frequent requests, but tapers off as BOINC learns. It should end up (I think), as once per day.

So if I just leave my preferences the way they are, bonic will drop the request for GPU work to one or two times a day but I\'ll still receive CPU work units as time progresses and I have more room for other work units.

In general, yes.
But keep in mind that it depends on which model type(s) you have selected.
And there\'s a new one just been added.

Thank you for the help. This seems to answer my questions. As for the model types, the last time I checked I had slected them all. I\'ll work on anything the project sends to me. Thanks again.

Theoretically you should be able to edit your project preferences (in this case your ClimatePrediction preferences) in your account to say whether you want to ask for GPU work or not. For example in my CPDN Beta project preferences it says:

Use Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) if available?

even though CPDN Beta never has work for GPU. And my Seti project preferences have a similar option for CUDA GPU.

However, the CPDN project preferences do not contain this option, presumably because the server software version is older. So as Les says you just have to let the GPU ask for work and gradually learn that there\'s none available.

I\'m surprised to see that my project preferences for QuantumFireAlpha don\'t contain the GPU usage question either. It\'s a very new project so the software must also be new.

There\'s a Boinc FAQ about GPUs here. It\'s clear from the section called Can\'t I turn the damn thing off? that this option should ideally be in the project preferences of every project.

Anyway, I see that you\'re receiving CPU work and processing it which is the most important thing.

Has model finished? The model I was running was at about 92% last night. This morning I have messages saying "Processing Suspended" and "No work available to process". Am I being told that the model has finished processing? What next? Plain English response requested. Thanks

Hello Timo

You were working on 2 models. This is the page for the list of your models.

The one that you say was at 92% is probably the one that's completed, the other one has crashed.

And, as the project is out of work, which is the 'normal' situation here, you have to wait until there's more.

Two models running on your computer reported this morning, here. One model completed successfully and the other crashed (without supplying a useful error code).

...

As the model has 2 more identical crashes, it is sure a problem with the workunit, not a problem with the computers trying to run it.
