Are the message boards having connection issues? Ever since the server upgrade I have often had trouble accessing these boards from the Boinc Manager. When I click “user forums” about half the time instead of connecting to the “ClimatePrediction.net message boards” I get a message that the “project is down”. Sometimes this problem last for only a few seconds, sometimes for hours. What gives. The problem is not at my end. I have a good reliable internet connection and no trouble logging on to other sites.

I've had the same problem.
The message boards are on climateapps2, which is also the download server.

I suspect that the relevant part of the message is the "too many connections", and is caused by hundreds of computers trying to get new work from the server when it doesn't think that they should have some. Mine for instance. :(

... and then there are the ever-popular "HTTP timeout" and "Can't open database" messages: Bane of my main-site life lately --> and I seriously doubt I'm the lone-ranger.

Given insufficient numbers of support personnel for such a complex project, all we can do is hang-tough until Tolu and Milo can sort it all out. (It'd be surprising to learn they haven't pulled all their hair out by now!)

Les is probably right. With all that nonsense about being over the daily quota it leaves large numbers of computers begging for work every time they trickle. My faster computer runs through a year in about 1.5 hours. With 2 WU’s running they trickle about 32 a day. And my slower computer trickles another 16 a day. Multiply that by thousands of computers and that’s a lot of trickles and a lot of requests for work. It could be that all those connection attempts are more than the server can handle at times.

Milo has done a new version compile of a couple of daemons to do with downloading, so please see if you can get new work now.
