I changed my preferences to 'use only 50% of CPU', and since then have I have had 'no work available to process', even though I have restored preferences to defaults.

I was part way through two HadSM3 models one global one and one for Europe, although can't remember the specific names as they've now disappeared from BOINC manager. Running snow leopard on a macbook. Any ideas why this is happening?

The project is out of work, as per the News and Announcements thread, and several user threads in Windows, Getting started, and Number crunching.

Cheers - I am confused as I assumed that once a model had started running it would continue without needed to download any more files. But if this is not the case I will wait for for work to download.

The 2 models that you had earlier have both crashed. See the Tasks page here, and the individual pages for the models.
On the model pages, click the + button alongside Stderr to see the error list.

There are a large number of Suspend request from BOINC messages, which usually indicates that you're left the Suspend work if CPU usage is above
0 means no restriction
Enforced by version 6.10.30+

option to the default of 25%. This will mean that BOINC, and the models, stop and start a lot as your personal use of the computer increases.

This is the same as turning off the computer without first stopping the BOINC core client, (and hence the models). Doing this will sooner or later crash the models, as the stored state of the many files gets out of sync., preventing the models from re-starting.

If you set the option above to zero, it will be turned off, allowing BOINC to run smoother.

And in case you haven't read through the science pages linked from the project's front page, climate models don't automatically run from start to finish.

They run for as long as the starting parameters allow without becoming unstable. If they become unstable before reaching their end point, they fail, which allows the researchers to see what the end result is for that given set of parameters.
