Hi guys, Recently I passed through the problem of trying to get a new task, what I'm sure that many other people experienced recently. I was lucky enough to be given a new task, it finally finished downloading the files and now its running as usual. Unfortunately, when I look at the tasks assigned to me I can see 2 tasks in progress. However, in BOINC there is only one task availiable. I think there was a download attempt for a task but it failed, and disapeared from the transfer window before getting the new task. Now my question is: Do I need to do something to release this task, to order to free it up for another less lucky participant? Or will this happen automatically some time in the future? If this is something that I should do, is there a way of doing this without disturbing the task currently being run? The two tasks: 12938731 12206020 Cheers! Karl |

This sounds like what we call a 'phantom model' - Part of the server code allocates a model to you, but, due to overloading of the server systems, the part of the server doing the actual downloads doesn't send it. So it ends up in your list of models on the project's servers, but not on your computer. This has happened to most of us at sometime. There's nothing that can be done, so don't worry about it. (And the servers have been under a lot of stress lately.) Please subscribe to the News and Announcements thread at the top of Number crunching, and make sure that you have email notification turned on in your project Account. Then you'll get an email each time a new post is made. It's where we post important 'need to know' stuff. Backups: Here |

Hi Les, Ok, thanks for the info. I hope those poor servers get a well earned holiday soon! :-) |
