\"Unread\" flag

Earlier this afternoon, I saw them for the first time -- on the first first thread visited. Thereafter, in subsequent threads, there were no flags on previously unseen messages. Tried first on SuSE Linux 9.0 KDE/Konqueror, on a P4 3.0 box. A few hours later, tried on same machine, but in Firefox; there were no "Unread" flags to be seen. None. Your experience?
