Hi everyone.

I've just signed my BOINC client up to climateprediction.net - it looks fairly interesting. I'm a fairly active member of WCG though so I'm used to seeing lots of tasks being sent to my computer.

I've noticed they seem to be quite rare on climateprediction.net, how often do you think I should expect to see tasks be sent to me?

For most of the history of this project there has been lots of work available. However, for a good while now there has been very little work. So you shouldn't expect any work at the moment.

There are a number of reasons for this. One is that the focus of simulation effort has moved from global to regional concerns. These regional models generate a huge amount of data and the University of Oxford, which runs the project, simply doesn't have the resources to store it all. So the approach is now to get a university in the relevant region to manage the data - but those institutions seem to have trouble getting adequate resources too.

Batches of work do sometimes appear. The best approach is to subscribe to the news thread on this message board, where the larger batches are announced.

In time I hope you'll get some work. It's an important topic.

And welcome to the message board!
