Hi there,

Just to let you know, my PC's Bitdefender Internet Security found an infected file. Here is the error message, "Bitdefender has detected an infected item in c:programdata\boinc\climateprediction.net\hadcm3s_7.24_windows_intelx86.exe. Virus name: Trojan.Generic.11754710. The file was disinfected for your protection"

This type of thing is called a "false positive". Which is when an AV program decides that some random sequence of characters matches one of it's malware files.
And, with the main program in this project being hundreds of thousands of lines long, there's plenty of scope for this to happen.

It's long been recommended that both parts of BOINC, along with all of the subfolders in the data section, which is where the project stuff is, be made off limits to all AV scanning, otherwise there'll always be some AV program thinking that it's found something and destroying the crunching for a project.

And this type of post should be made in one of the other sections, as it has nothing to do with climate science.
