Hi, I got a new CPDN task (at 2015.04.21. 18:12:41 hadam3p_pnw_vfvb_2006_1_009186945_0) and I don't find it among my tasks. But I see a lot tasks wich don't belong me: [/img]http://postimg.org/image/9vpo6x1qb/[/img] (Only relevant task is hadcm3n_xc1i_1940_40_009151900_4 which is in progress.) Please help me what am I doing wrong...? Thanks a lot in advanced for your help. Best wishes, Zoltan |

Zoltan - Until someone gives a better answer, here is mine. It is not uncommon (for me at least) to have work units shown on the website that are not on my computer. These are possibly caused by download errors and other "problems". The only two ways I know to fix this is 1) wait for the work unit to "time-out" or 2) wait until all your work is done and reset the project on your computer. I do not know of any instance where I had a work unit that was not shown on the website. In any case, I find it highly unlikely you are doing anything wrong. Bob |

In boinc manager, on the Tasks tab, there is a button that can list only active tasks, or all tasks. If only active tasks are shown, some of your most recent downloads may just be in a queue to start. If you ensure all tasks are listed, the ones recently downloaded may show up. Otherwise what WB8ILI says about occasional glitches in downloads showing up as "phantom" tasks in your webpage task listing is correct. You are probably doing things right. |

I forgot about the Show All Tasks/Show Active Tasks button. I accidentally hit that once in a while and takes me some time to realize I did it. |

Hi Bob (and Geophi), thank you for your answers. Everythin is OK in my boinc manager, I see anomalies in my account on boinc website. I think my accont belongs to "server side" and here is my problem: - if I see such tasks at server side what are missed in my client (in boinc manager) the project may wait for an such task what will nerver arrived -> waste of time - if I do not see such tasks at server side what are in process in my client I suppose when the task will done the server will not receive it because the server does not expect it -> waste of (my) resources I think the server side (data on web pages) and client side should contain the same data (depend on frequency of syncronization). I see here serious problems at CPDN project ... :( waste of time and resources but the project has enormous importance. I had tried earlier to reset CPDN project without any effects... Any more ideas? Best wishes, Zoltan |

Models that show on the server but are not on your computer are known as "phantom models". This happens when there's a problem at the server end, and there's nothing that you can do about them. A lot of us have had them over the years. Models on your computer but not on the server: Work in progress is NOT shown in the order that they are sent to you; they're in the order of the model's name, and can sometimes appear several pages from the start of the list. Otherwise, please post the url of one of these so that we can check. |

Hi Less, thank you for your offered help I checked my all tasks and the missed task's appared among my tasks "in process". But I have eight "phantom" processes that are waste of time for the project because you will able to deliver them after a year and the project can't be closed in time... Really isn't there any tool what is made them free for redelivering? Best wishes, Zoltan |

Yes, there is a "tool". Any data set that's really important, or urgent, can get re-issued by the researchers whenever they feel like it, such as when it's being run on a computer that's taking months to run one that only takes a few hours or days on a "fast" system. (e.g. The hadcm3s take about 15 hours on my Haswell. The hadam3p_eu models take about 42 hours.) All data these days goes directly to a data centre that is near the research group, so it would be easy for them to do a data base scan to see which ones are taking a long time. And a re-issue wouldn't have the same name, so it wouldn't be possible for BOINC users to tell. The ones that you're talking about may have already been re-issued. And, perhaps, finished. |

It is possible to force a reissue of phantom tasks, by detaching the affected host from the project (and reattaching). This will not cause the tasks to be reissued to the original host but the tasks might then be completed by someone else. Note that detaching from the project will terminate any running tasks, so should only be done when all running tasks have been completed. CPDN uses large ensembles of models and it isn't expected that they will all complete - hence the relative lack of concern about a few phantoms. |
