Message 52098 - Posted: 25 Jun 2015, 15:33:33 UTC

I would like to login to my account with userID 18960. But it seems like I do not know the password. When entering my email in order to reset my password, I do not receive any email! There is definitely no spam filter activated and there is no other possibility that could explain why I do not receive any mail in order to reset my password. Please help me out, I really want to participate! Thanks in advance!

If you go into the directory where BOINC is installed and open the file account_climateprediction.net.xml the long number next to authenticator a couple of lines down from the top should let you do it. Is there any chance you have given a different email? Also I think that the sending of an email may not be automatic it may have to wait for someone to look at it?

This would require that I still have access to the BOINC installation I have used with CPDN years ago, which I unfortunately do not have :(
So this solution does sadly not apply to me.
But thanks for mentioning it!

I am quite sure I have used the very same email then, that I would like to use now. At most projects the forgotten password process is completely automatic. But even when it would not be like this at CPDN: I have requested my password in late May 2015. I guess someone should have sent an email out by now...

How many accounts did you make? You mention a May password request but your information on the left shows you joined today. I don't understand.

Welcome to the project and the boards ...

[EDIT] In 'Your Account', which can't be accessed without a password, there is an option to refuse emails. I don't recall the default setting so, help appreciated.

Without the correct password, I cannot login to my (1st) account. Without my (1st) account, I am not able to post a message here. So I had to create a completely new (2nd) account.

My old/first account has userID 18960, the account I am using right now in order to get this message to you has the ID 730433. I am interested in access to my account 18960, which is also linked with my other accounts at the other BOINC projects.

The password request was for the account with the userID 18960. There is no need for a password request for this account with the userID 730433, that I created today ;-)

Maybe this explains a lot...but how do I get access to the account at all then?!?

Unfortunately I have set up this account years ago and I can't remember the settings I chose back then. But even I could, would still not get me access to the old/1st account :(

[EDIT] Seems like I have requested a password reset back in 2010 and received an email. So this should not be a problem...

Just for the record: I have already contacted cpdn-support with my problem on May 21st.

The only thing I have received from this, is ticket ID #29336.

Except for the ticket ID there was no more answer or anything else. So I asked them for an update on the situation on June 10th, but nothing so far :-(

Kind of a desperate situation... *sigh*

Message 52107 - Posted: 25 Jun 2015, 18:34:35 UTC - in response to Message 52106.

I have also created a new account at CPDN using a gmail account and tried to reset the password afterwards. I am absolutely sure right now, that CPDN does not send out any email to reset passwords to any account at any provider!

Maybe this explains why I have not received an answer for more than a month from cpdn-support?

Hopefully they put more interest and care in their research...

There's a problem with the "reply" part of the get-a-new-passwaord, which has affected a lot of people who have forgotten their passwords.
We're trying to get this fixed, but the hand full of people assigned to this project have their hands full with the real work of the project. Hopefully this will get fixed before too long.

Is there a way you could help me out without keeping me waiting for the fix of the automatic password reply?

No. The entire BOINC process is automated.

This should be fixed now. Please try the password reset webpage again and let us know how that goes. (http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/get_passwd.php)

A problem with this was reported earlier in the week. Apparently it's still there.

I'll send another email.

Apparently, this is a side effect of new security measures. It's being dealt with, but it may take time.
