OK, no reply, so you may need to put it down to an unknown number of things happening together at the wrong time.
Perhaps make sure that nothing else is running/happening when models are close to finishing, and see what happens then.

Nevertheless, thanks for your attention Les.

I've the same concerns about HadCM3 short behaviour. I will do more backups, so there is always a chance for a second try.
