Newest first and newest doesn't sort Last Post column correctly!? What is the easiest way to Actually find the newest thread and newest post in a thread?

If you look at the left hand side of the posts at the top you will see two posts for example in this section that are locked to the start of the section. After those two posts, the rest are (at least for me) sorted by newest first.

A different debate is whether we should have quite so many posts in some sections locked to the start of those sections. (Linux and Number Crunching come to mind.) I suspect there are some posts locked to the start which are so out of date that the locking could be undone allowing them to move down. Others do contain important information that is useful to those new to the boards (or for easy reference to those like myself who have been around for longer.)

I would welcome feedback from others including other moderators on this.

Have you also got "Jump to first new post in thread automatically" ticked?
This, plus the 2 that you mentioned, have worked for me for years.

In the forum preferences you can choose not to display locked posts at the top.
