Dear CPDN - (BOINC Credit versus Classic Credit) Is there a project to bring these two measures of work done into agreement? Or will they forever remain separate and not comparable? Al in Oklahoma 2004 September 27 Monday |

Hi Al, There are a couple of equivalances in the account statistics on your <a href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/home.php">BOINC account page</a>. <b>Total credit</b> is your credit total for the BOINC version of CPDN. <b>CPDN classic credit equivalency</b> is the total number of credits that your classic CPDN models would have earned under BOINC. <i>equivalent HadSM3 Model-Years</i> is the number of model years equivalent to your BOINC credits (separately listed under the other 2). <a href="http://www.teampicard.net"><img src="http://www.teampicard.net/templates/fisubice/images/phpbb2_logo.jpg"></a><a href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/team_display.php?teamid=3">Join us here</a> |

> > So does this mean that my classic credits are recognized and added to my > BOINC credits? > As I understand it, projects participating in BOINC will not be adding credits earned under previous methods directly to the BOINC total. In S@H, for example, the two credit systems are very different, and no direct equivalency is possible. As BOINC is designed to provide a unified credit system, it would be very unfair if some projects gave credit for past work and others didn't. In any case, having a fresh start from time to time is no bad thing, as it encourages newcomers to take part. The arrangement whereby past contributions to a project are acknowledged but not added to the BOINC total seems the best compromise. |
