Hi,

i successfully ran boinc initially. i then detached from climateprediction, attached to lhcathome and now wanted to reattach climateprediction. it successfully downloaded the models and executes them, but boinc is unresponsive and can only be killed.

ideas, anyone?

Yeah, there's a known problem with dual processors (physical or logical). I've experienced it, too. If there's insufficient work for a project to use 2 processors, the client and server will hang until there is.

Kill BOINC, change your general settings in all projects to limit the processing to 1 CPU. Restart BOINC - things should run fine, and it should download work for all your projects.

Once there's enough work to keep both processors busy for all projects, you can change your general preferences back to 2 processors, then "update" the projects from the Projects tab using the right-click menu. It should download additional WU's for you at that time.

That should do it - worst-case scenario, you may have to set your CPU's to 1 and reinstall BOINC. (Keep track of your project id if you do this, of course!)

Good luck...

Are you sure that everything downloaded successfully, Blat? The reason I ask is because BOINC can appear to be locked up when there's a download failure. If that's the case doing a project update usually fixes things.

Although killing BOINC may sometimes be necessary it's not something that should be undertaken lightly. If you do it you should also kill the projects that BOINC is running (hadsm3* in the case of climateprediction.net), but you are likely to lose the model you were working on.

I actually had to kill and manually remove climateprediction from boinc. now boinc is working again.

Cheers
